This
debut film from a young director was the talk of the Edinburgh Festival and
accumulated several film awards in 2006 and 2007. In the opening scene a prostitute and a
twelve-year old girl burst into a public toilet in South London in the early hours
of the morning. They are battered and
bruised and on the run from an evil pimp who has been ordered to find
them. During a 24 hour period we follow
the pair as they escape to Brighton and gradually through a series of flashbacks
discover the true horror of their situation.
This is a fresh take on the English gangster movie genre with superb
acting and real heart-in-mouth suspense, however it deals with difficult
subject matter and contains scenes that may offend sensitive viewers. It has an 18 certificate.
