This is a
triangular love story set in the incredible Mole Antonelliana, a 19th
Century building that was originally designed as a Jewish temple and now houses
the National Museum of Cinema. Martino
is a night watchman, cinephile and Buster Keaton enthusiast. One night he befriends Amanda, the girlfriend
of a car thief, who is on the run from the police. As Amanda waits for her boyfriend to rescue
her she begins to develop tender affections for the shy Martino and starts to
question her relationship. The film is
shot in three different formats and the action is cross-cut with clips from
Buster Keaton movies and a German expressionist film that represent the two
characters. Ferrario writes about films
and displays his knowledge in a manner both intelligent and fascinating, making
allusions to silent movies and film making techniques, essentially paying
homage to the films of a bygone age.
