the_page_turner Melanie is a talented child pianist who has her audition for a scholarship to the Paris Conservatoire ruined by a thoughtless action on the part of one of the chief examiners, Ariane.  Years later she has the opportunity to exact her revenge when she accepts a job with Ariane's family at their chateau outside Paris , becoming a page turner for the now fragile Ariane, herself a concert pianist.  Measured performances by the two female leads add to the atmosphere of tension and suspense as the strange relationship between the two women develops and the plot twists and turns in surprising ways.   Dercourt, influenced by Japanese photography and informed by his own knowledge of musical composition and experience as a professional musician, has directed an elegant and slowburning thriller, reminiscent of Hitchcock and dripping with Parisian glamour.
