 Jindabyne

Based on a short story by Raymond Carver, ‘So Much Water Close to Home’, and set in New South Wales this is a brooding and atmospheric crime thriller about the consequences of the actions of four men on their yearly fishing trip when they discover the body of a young Aboriginal woman in the river.  Rather than disrupt their male-bonding weekend they tether the body to the riverbank and carry on fishing, delaying reporting their find until the weekend is over.  When their action comes to light all hell breaks loose in the community, not least in the unhappy wife of one of the men who, disturbed in the extreme by the actions of her husband, becomes intent on forcing the people of Jindabyne to make peace with the Aboriginal community.  A complex film, beautifully photographed and sensitively scored, in which secrets, lies, bigotry and denial lie just beneath the surface of a seemingly open and sunny world.

Note this film has been moved from October 16th.
